In previous generations, our Sisters worked primarily as teachers and nurses. Today, in addition to careers in Education and Healthcare, we serve the dear neighbor throughout the state of Florida in a wide variety of professions, among them social workers, mental health counselors, and spiritual directors. We are even involved in the design of places of worship. For example, one of our Sisters in St. Augustine, who is a noted artist, was commissioned to design a stained glass memorial to those who had fallen on September 11th. Today that inspirational work of art is a permanent fixture in the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in New York City--directly across the street from one of the firehouses hardest hit by the tragedy. Another of our Sisters is a well-respected architect recognized as one of nation's top designers of churches and other liturgical spaces.
Regardless of profession, we see what we do as works of mercy and charity, and when we reach the age when most others in society enter retirement ... we keep working, eventually devoting our remaining years to the most powerful ministry of all--that of prayer, prayer for all of us.
In the near future we hope to devote this page to articles by and about our Sisters, highlighting specific types of works of mercy, which our Sisters perform throughout the state of Florida. |
